Corten Steel Outdoor Planters are available in a wide variety of shapes, including:
creating a unique sense of art to meet the needs of different scenes.
Product Information
Corten Steel Outdoor Planters are made from high-strength, low-alloyed steel (ASTM A588/A242 standard), which is micro-alloyed (e.g., 0.2-0.5% copper) to form a dense layer of rust (approx. 50-100 μm in thickness) when exposed to the atmosphere, to prevent further oxidation, and develop a weathered, rusty appearance, significantly improve resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

Corten steel (also known as weathering steel) is a class of special alloy steel that automatically forms a dense oxidised rust layer under natural conditions such as wind and sunlight. This surface rust layer not only gives the planter a unique brownish-red appearance, but also isolates moisture and oxygen, protecting the internal steel from further oxidation, thus eliminating the long-term additional painting and maintenance.
Over time, weathering steel planters will take on a rich, variegated natural rust-red hue on their surface, adding a rugged, warm look to modern or naturalistic landscaping.
Important Information
1.The initial rusting process may produce fine rust grains that run off with rainwater and contaminate concrete, tile or surrounding surfaces. We recommend placing planters in areas where staining won’t be an issue or using a catch basin.
2.The rust layer needs to be stabilized in an environment with alternating cycles of wet and dry conditions. Constant moisture (e.g., soaking water or wet soil) will hinder the development of the protective layer. We recommend placing planters in alternating wet and dry environments.
3.Each Planter has Optional drainage holes in customized size. Drainage holes mean hassle-free watering of plants and vegetables and preventative waterlogging.
| Category | Size Range /m | Thickness /mm | Application Scenarios | Feature |
| Rectangle/ Square | 0.5-2×0.5-1 | 2-3 | patio/terrace/garden | Seamlessly welded, warp-proof |
| Cylinder/ Ellipse | Ø 0.3-1.5 | 2 | courtyard/garden | Natural curve, easy drainage |
| Customized Multi-Layer | H:1-3 | 2-4 | landscapes/wall-mounted | Modular |
Support various sizes (as 45-60cm in diameter, 60cm in height) and shapes (conical, cylindrical, etc.). The thickness range 2-3mm can guarantee more than 25 years of service life, or even longer if the thickness is higher.
The surface can be pre-rusted or black painted to shorten the oxidation period.
Corten steel can be selected from the original gray-black (not pre-oxidized state), also can be sandblasted to accelerate the effect of uniform rust. Our factory pre-rusted finish is also available to give the planter a natural rust color upon arrival. In addition, our customers may choose to paint the interior with a rust-resistant paint or waterproof membrane to extend the life of the container (especially when used to hold water or plant moss vegetation).
Each of these finishes is designed to balance appearance and protection to meet individual customer needs.
1. Excellent Corrosion Resistance:
The corten steel rust layer generated by the wind and sun can isolate the steel from the air, and the experiments have proved that its corrosion loss is extremely slow (e.g., under the London climate, the loss of only about 0.8mm of steel thickness in 40 years). As long as the basic dry and wet alternating environment, corten steel planters can be used for decades or even more than a hundred years without being easily damaged.
2. Great Environmental Adaptability:
Resistant to ultraviolet rays, high and low temperatures, and humid environments. The rust layer is also self-repairing under dry and wet cycling conditions, and can re-oxidize to form a protective film after damage, with little structural corrosion occurring. No need to paint, improved environmental index (reduced VOC emissions).
3. Unique Aesthetics:
The rust color fades from metallic grey to orange-brown with a unique texture that adds value to the landscape design. This naturally occurring color, when paired with greenery, stone and other landscape elements, highlights modern industrial aesthetics, also incorporates a variety of styles such as rustic and medieval, making the visual effect versatile and expressive.
4. Sturdy Structure:
Usually made of 2-4mm thick steel plate, wind-resistant and soundproof. As a structural steel, corten steel has superior impact and load-bearing capacity to many materials and is less prone to collision damage. The four sides of the planters can be designed with safe chamfering or edge wrapping treatment, without sharp burrs when use, safer and more reliable.
5. Lightweight:
Lighter than concrete planters, flexible installation. Compared with stainless steel (easy to scratch) and aluminium (easy to oxidize), more adaptable to outdoor.
6. Sustainable:
100% recyclable, alloy optimized to reduce carbon footprint, in compliance with EU green standards. Unlike plastic planters, corten steel planters do not produce microplastic pollution and are non-toxic to soil and plants.
