Product Information
Corten steel square planter with uniform rust patina is suitable for growing various flowers and plants. When exposed to natural atmospheric conditions, the steel surface reacts with air, rainwater, and other elements to automatically form a dense, stable, and well-adhered rust-red protective layer known as “patina.” This is not conventional rust corrosion but rather a controlled, self-protective oxidation mechanism.
This protective layer effectively blocks moisture and oxygen from further penetrating the steel substrate, significantly slowing the corrosion rate. As a result, the steel achieves a lifespan several times longer than ordinary steel without requiring additional paint or coating protection.
The geometric lines of square planters align more easily with building facades, hardscapes, and seating systems, facilitating modular arrangements and engineered installations—making square planters extremely common in commercial plazas, office campuses, and street landscapes.

Weather Resistance and Long Service Life
High Strength and Durability
Excellent strength and durability ensure the square planters withstand the pressure of large volumes of soil and endure harsh outdoor conditions such as frost, strong winds, and salt corrosion.
Low Maintenance
The protective layer on corten steel surfaces forms naturally, requiring no external coating protection. The protective layer on weathering steel surfaces forms naturally, requiring no external coating protection whatsoever. This means virtually no maintenance is required throughout its entire lifecycle, eliminating complex maintenance tasks and associated material and labor costs.
What should be noted when using corten steel planters?
Before the patina fully develops, weathering steel may release rust runoff that could stain surfaces. We recommended placing planters in areas where staining is not an issue or using a drip tray.
Can I use square corten steel planter boxes indoors?
When used indoors, a catch basin must be placed beneath the planter to prevent rust runoff from staining the floor.
Can corten planters cause waterlogging?
When manufacturing planter pots, one or more drainage holes are reserved at the bottom to prevent soil water accumulation, which is detrimental to plants.
